Tuolumne River Trust Wins $2,500 Grant in Patagonia's 2nd Annual ‘Voice Your Choice’ Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 30, 2009) — Hundreds cast their vote to make their choice heard and Tuolumne River Trust came out on top! The outdoor clothing outfitter's second annual “Voice Your Choice” campaign helped Patagonia’s San Francisco store decide how it should distribute $5,000 in grant money to three local environmental organizations. Tuolumne River Trust was awarded $2,500, and the second- and third-place organizations received $1,500 and $1,000 respectively.

Local groups nominated for the award were Tuolumne River Trust (http://www.tuolumne.org), San Francisco Baykeeper (http://www.baykeeper.org), and Community Clean Water Institute (http://www.ccwi.org). The candidates were selected by Patagonia's San Francisco store members based on their local focus and range of environmental concerns.

Votes were accepted at the store in San Francisco from September 24 through October 24. Participants could cast one vote per store per visit. No purchase was necessary. Tuolumne River Trust was announced as the grant winner at a reception on Sunday, October 25 at the San Francisco store. San Francisco Bay Keeper and Community Clean Water Institute were the runner-up and third place winners, respectively.

Patagonia retail stores in 25 communities throughout the country particiapted in the Voice Your Choice campaign (www.patagonia.com/voiceyourchoice) as part of the company’s well-known support for environmental causes, including a separate Environmental Grants Program that has generated more than $34 million in grants since 1985 by donating 1% of annual sales to environmental organizations worldwide.

For 28-years, the Tuolumne River Trust has been the Voice For The River. The organization seeks a healthy and vibrant River that is teeming with fish and widlife; safe for drinking, fishing and swimming; and held in trust as a refuge for our children and grandchildren. With offices in Sonora, Modesto and San Francisco, Tuolumne River Trust's staff, Board and Advisors, along with our volunteer base, are putting down roots throughout the watershed and building the capacity necessary to achieve their vision.
