PADDLE TO THE SEA REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!!

REGISTER TO PADDLE:  http://paddletothesea.dojiggy.com/

WHEN:  May 7 – June 5, 2010

WHY:   This is a paddle with a purpose.  Paddlers will be raising money to support the work of the Tuolumne River Trust and talking with friends, family, reporters and decision makers to raise awareness about the need to restore the Tuolumne to her full grandeur.  All of the funds raised will go directly to supporting the Tuolumne River Trust to:

Save the salmon;

Promote water conservation; and

Take kids out to learn about the River, training the next generation of river stewards.

WHO:    The Tuolumne River Trust is the voice for the river; ensuring that it is healthy, vibrant, and teeming with fish and wildlife. We seek to hold it safely in trust as a refuge for our children and grandchildren to enjoy. Founded in 1981, the Trust won Wild and Scenic designation for 83 miles of the Tuolumne in 1984, saved the Clavey from being dammed in 1994, and won higher flows for salmon in 1995. In 2008, we organized thousands of citizens to defeat a plan by San Francisco to divert 25 million gallons of water per day from the River.

The second annual Paddle to the Sea is a month long journey down the Tuolumne River from the Sierra to the Sea.  Hundreds of paddlers will participate in this epic journey, raising money and awareness on behalf of one of California’s great rivers. Whitewater Rafters will begin by running the world-famous Class IV stretch of the Tuolumne.   Then paddlers in canoes and flat water kayaks will meander their way through the Central Valley, past Modesto and the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin Rivers, and on to the San Francisco Bay where sea kayakers will complete the trip.
