| In the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, the 158-mile Tuolumne River descends from Mt. Lyell and Mt. Dana, in Yosemite National Park, plunging through deep canyon walls and providing 27 miles of world-class whitewater for rafters and kayakers.  The Tuolumne River whitewater rafting season generally runs from April to August. The Tuolumne is an advanced Class IV-V river and is a special wilderness experience because it is permitted, resulting in more solitude than other rivers.
