Event Type:
TRT Events
Where:
Pinecrest, CA
Description:
This trip is an easy 4.5 mile day hike where participants enjoy outstanding sierra vistas and gain a glimpse of the geologic past of the sierras. Volcanic rocks left untouched by the last glaciation conspicuously stand out against the granitic bedrock. Adding to the day’s adventure are the panoramic vistas from Burst Rock and lovely Powell Lake.
The hike’s elevation gain is gradual and takes participants from the trailhead’s elevation of 8600 ft to the top elevation of 9100 ft. Upon reaching the top point at the viewpoint of Burst Rock participants will descend to Powell Lake to have lunch and rest before hiking back to the cars.
There is no cost for this trip, but participants must provide their own lunch (no alcohol please), water, and snacks. Sunscreen, a sun hat, comfortable boots, and a camera are also recommended.
The hike will be from 11:00am to approximately 2:00pm, and it is limited to 15 participants. We reserve the right to cancel or alter this trip based on weather and/or number of signed participants. For more information, contact Carlos Leonzo at carlos@tuolumne.org or call (209) 596-6283.
