Don't miss the boat! Join us as we paddle from the Sierra's to Sea. Paddling starts on the upper watershed on May 7 and ends in the San Francisco Bay on June 5, 2010. Canoe with us one day or the entire journey. More details coming soon!
WHY:This is a paddle with a purpose.Paddlers will be raising money to support the work of the Tuolumne River Trust and talking with friends, family, reporters and decision makers to raise awareness about the need to restore the Tuolumne to her full grandeur.All of the funds raised will go directly to supporting the Tuolumne River Trust to:
Save the salmon;
Promote water conservation; and
Take kids out to learn about the River, training the next generation of river stewards.
WHO:The Tuolumne River Trust is the voice for the river; ensuring that it is healthy, vibrant, and teeming with fish and wildlife. We seek to hold it safely in trust as a refuge for our children and grandchildren to enjoy. Founded in 1981, the Trust won Wild and Scenic designation for 83 miles of the Tuolumne in 1984, saved the Clavey from being dammed in 1994, and won higher flows for salmon in 1995. In 2008, we organized thousands of citizens to defeat a plan by San Francisco to divert 25 million gallons of water per day from the River.
With just one minute of your time, you can help secure thousands of dollars for wetland conservation! Budweiser and The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have teamed up to conserve the outdoors by awarding $50,000 to one of four finalists competing for the title of "Budweiser Conservationist of the Year". The Tuolumne River Trust is happy to announce one of our own members, Bill Lyons, Jr., has made it to the final four.
You'll be asked to enter your birthdate to assure you're 21 year or older, and then be taken immediately to vote.
Bill Lyons, Jr. and his family are long-time supporters of the Tuolumne River Trust and very involved with our work to protect and restore the River. He and his family have managed their family ranch, nestled between the Tuolumne, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus Rivers, to improve and restore hundreds of acres of wetlands while growing corn and pasture mix to provide feeding grounds for vast numbers of over-wintering water fowl in the Central Valley. Bill was instrumental in removing the Aleutian Cackling Goose from the endangered species list. He hasalso worked with Environmental Quality Incentives Program and Natural Resource Conservation Services to produce measurable results in improving air and water quality. Collaborating with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and North American Wetlands Conservation Act program, Bill is dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing hundreds of acres of wetland habitat.
The winner and their conservation organization will use the money to fund conservation efforts of their choosing. The 3 runners up will receive a $5,000 grant to continue their on-the-ground efforts.
2. Mail a 3x5" card with your name, address, age and name of your candidate to: 2010 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year, P.O. Box 750026, El Paso, TX 88575-0026

millions of people in the bay area through the Hetch Hetchy system.
“It’s thrilling to see so many people across the nation pitching in to
protect their local river or favorite stream,” said Rebecca
