Dennet Dam Removal

In 2018, after over a decade of work, Dennett Dam was finally removed from the lower Tuolumne River in Modesto, California.

This marks a milestone -- now, over 52 miles of river flow unimpeded from La Grange to the San Joaquin River. Dennett Dam was built in the 1930’s to create a recreational lake on the river, but failed within a few years of its construction. Its deadly remains have blocked safe boating, interrupted fish migration, and killed a number of people from drowning in its deadly hydraulics over the years. For years, despite all this, nobody would step-up to remove the dam - until TRT stepped up and led efforts to do so.
