Restore

Using a watershed-wide approach, we take on ambitious landscape-scale restoration projects. From the headwater forests in the Sierra Nevada mountains to the parks and floodplains of the Central Valley, to the flows that course through the San Francisco Bay, we know that restoring one section of the river improves the health of the entire watershed.

Healthy Headwaters

TRT has found that comprehensive planning activities must occur first, ranging from landscape-level forest health planning to prioritizing meadows most in need of restoration. We work with our collaborative partners to accomplish unique projects.

Floodplain Restoration

The riparian habitat and wetlands that support the largest diversity of wildlife in California have been all but eliminated locally due to development and agriculture. To address this issue, we are contributing to the largest contiguous riparian habitat restoration initiative in California.

Flow Improvements

On average, only 21% of the Tuolumne’s unimpaired flow reaches its confluence with the San Joaquin River. In order to avoid ecosystem collapse, we are working to restore flows that more closely resemble the natural flow of the river to benefit fish, wildlife, and people.
