Trekking the Tuolumne

Trekking the Tuolumne exposes youth in the Central Valley to the natural world around them through hands-on experiential learning, field-trips in the watershed, and classroom lessons that cover key concepts, such as river ecology, wildlife conservation, how local water resources are used, and challenges facing the river.

Our program combines classroom education that brings nature to youth through hands-on activities and field trips to areas of cultural and environmental significance where students can connect the dots between the classroom and their community. Place-based learning is an integral component of this program that addresses science education standards while engaging students in real-world experiences in habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, wildlife conservation, and water resource management.

Through building students’ water literacy, they gain a sense of place, pride, and stewardship rooted in their community,  while supporting a personal relationship with the river and watershed.
