Overview: Passing through the Tuolumne’s own Grand Canyon, this 57-mile backpacking route is an excellent way to enjoy a less crowded corner of Yosemite National Park. Starting from the Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp, you’ll make your way down the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne Trail. The mostly singletrack trail follows the Tuolumne Trail and passes by numerous waterfalls, swimming holes and steep granite walls. You will eventually arrive at the intersection of the White Wolf Trail. Take the right on to White Wolf and follow it to the Ten Lakes Trail. From there continue on to the Tuolumne Peak Trail, which will bring you back to the trail towards Glen Aulin.

Notes: This trail features significant elevation change and requires several nights of camping. Mosquitoes can be bad in late summer. It is located within Yosemite National Park, so a park entrance fee and backcountry permits will be required. Dogs are not allowed. Though removed from the crowds in Yosemite Valley, you’re still likely to see quite a few other backpackers in the warmer months. Sturdy shoes are recommended with the rocky incline and decline. There are numerous intersections with other trails along the way, so bring a good map.

Season: May-October
