Kennedy Meadows to Relief Reservoir

Overview: This is a 7.0 mile out-and-back hike that follows the Middle Fork Stanislaus River up to Relief Reservoir in the Emigrant Wilderness. With over 1,300 ft of elevation gain, this trail starts near Kennedy Meadows Resort and passes by a series of waterfalls, natural pools, and granite rock formations. A scenic wooden bridge is located near the confluence with Kennedy Creek. This trail can be popular in the summer months and is open to backpackers, horseback riders, and pack animals.

Notes: To avoid crowds, it’s recommended to hike this trail when the Kennedy Meadows Resort is closed. The roads to the trailhead, however, are closed in the winter due to snow.

Season: Late spring through early fall (not accessible in winter)
